MANCHESTER City legend Mike Summerbee will officially unveil Colwyn Bay FC’s new stand tonight (Wednesday, August 15).
The City favourite, who helped his side win both the Division One and Two championships as well as the FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup, will be at the Red Lion Foods Stadium to open the 500 seater stand before a showpiece friendly between the Seagulls and the Premier League champions.
The opening brings to an end the £72,000 saga which almost saw the Bay struck out of the Blue Square North division.
The fixture will also draw to a close the Bay’s pre-season preparations, and Seagulls boss Jon Newby hoped football fans from across the area would turn out in force to see what his side have to offer.
“I think it’s great for the town to attract a club of Manchester City’s size here, particularly with them being the Premier League champions.
“Hopefully it’ll be a great night with them opening the new stand as well.
“I think things were a little difficult with attendances last year.
“From our point of view there isn’t much more we could have done on the pitch - we’re playing at the highest level the club have been at, and we had a relatively successful season consolidating our position.
“If we could get a few more people through the turnstiles that would be great, as well as to show their appreciation to City for coming down here.
“Our average last season was around the 350 mark, and if we could get up to 400 we’d be pleased. It might not sound like a lot, but it would really make a difference for the club.
Admission is available at the turnstiles on the night, with admission prices of £10 for adults, £5 concessions and £2 for under-14s.
