A CONWY pub will grace the cover of a UK heritage pub guide.

The Albion Ale House hosted the official book launch of Britain’s Best Real Heritage Pubs by Geoff Brandwood last week, after it was selected to appear on the cover out of about 250 pubs across the country.

Albion Pub landlord Stuart Chapman-Edwards said: “It was a great night - Geoff sold all his copies and presented a national inventory certificate to The Albion, which recognises pub interiors and features of exceptional historic or architectural importance.

“He also gave us all a terrific speech about our pub and the book, and why, out of the hundreds of pubs he’s written about, he thought we deserved to be on the cover.

“We’re very proud to be included in the book at all, not to mention being featured on the cover.”

The book is a pictorial and descriptive tour of Britain’s national inventory-protected pubs.

The Albion is unique to the UK, operated between four separate North Wales breweries.

The building is recognised as one of the best preserved examples of 1920s architecture in Britain.

Author Geoff Brandwood is an expert on Victorian and early twentieth century architecture, and has written over half a dozen books on the subject.

He said: “The pub is a perfect fit for the book’s cover.

“It encapsulates perfectly the look, feel and warmth of the traditional British pub.

“Pubs have been absolutely transformed over the years, but The Albion has stayed true to its heritage.

“It was the perfect place to hold the launch.

“The place was throbbing, and people were just so enthused about having their local pub appear on the cover.”

Britain’s Best Real Heritage Pubs is available online and from retailers now.
