A schoolgirl with a rare chromosome condition is looking for help to fund her dream of riding her first ever bike.

Lillie Dodd (pictured), 12, has chromosome abnormality 19q12 where instead of having two chromosomes, she has three.

The Ysgol Y Gogarth pupil also has type one diabetes and is incontinent.

Physiotherapists at Lillie’s school have recommended a specialist tricycle - a slider rode trike - which would mean “the world” to her.

Lillie tried out the bike at the school and now needs help covering the £3,500 cost.

Mum, Emma Dodd, 47, said: “Lillie is the only person in the UK on the Unique (a charity for rare chromosome and single gene disorders) database with this condition.

”Everyday is a challenge for her. The diabetes can be life threatening. Her sugar levels can be affected by her hormones, the weather or doing PE at school. I’m constantly checking her.

”Despite all of this Lillie faces everything head on and always with a smile.

”Now that Lillie’s sat on the bike and tried it out, she’s made an attachment. We asked for help from a charity but unfortunately the costs were too much.

“I’d love to get it for her but it’s not as simple as going to Halford’s and buying a bike.”

Lillie, who has siblings Hannah, 27 and Michael, 19 as well as dad Phil, 46, has a Facebook blog ‘Lillie smiles’ written by her mum.

It tells her 160 followers from as far as Australia about her day to day life which varies from trips to Alder Hey and Glan Clwyd to horse riding in Mold.

”I started off posting about Lillie on my Facebook page, to show off pictures of my daughter’s smile then created Lillie’s own page to bring joy to people’s day.”

A Just Giving page has been set up for Lillie’s cause, which has so far raised £310.

”Getting the bike would make her feel like all of other kids. All her friends and family want her to reach her dream.

It’s heartbreaking seeing her live her life with these with these conditions. To see her enjoying herself, the smile light up on her face wouldn’t just make me happy but also me and my husband too. ” Mrs Dodd said.
