A grandfather responsible for love bites on the body of a 13-year-old girl has been jailed for three years.

Colin Cureton, aged 69, of Alexander Road, Llandudno, was told that his actions had not only been illegal but they were unnatural.

Judge Rhys Rowlands ordered him to register with the police as a sex offender for life.

He also made a life-time sexual harm prevention order.

The judge said that it was a case of grooming of a young child by a much older man.

At trial before Christmas he denied three charges of sexual activity with the child, alleged to have occurred in April, 2016.

A jury at Mold Crown Court found him not guilty of two charges, but was convicted by an 11 to one majority of an offence of sexual activity with a child which involved leaving love bites.

As part of the investigation a DNA sample was taken which matched the defendant’s saliva.

Cureton denied that anything inappropriate had ever occurred.

He had the support of his family and his daughter had spoken very highly of his ability as a father and grandfather.

He was a man of good character with a good work record.

“This was grooming of a young child by a much older man,” said Judge Rowlands.
