A plan to build 52 houses at Marl Lane Deganwy was approved by Conwy planners last week.

The application had been submitted by Beech Developments Ltd, The same company which is making an appeal against a council decision to refuse a controversial application for 110 houses about 700 yards away.

The 1.9 hectare site has been allocated in the local development plan for 75 houses.

Cllr Peter Lewis told Conwy Borough Council's planning committee he had concerns about the proposed level of affordable housing, he said: "I think the one disappointment I have about this application is it should have 30 per cent affordable housing, but it has dropped to 10 per cent. But I recognise there are extra problems with this site."

Cllr Chris Cater stated: "It is disappointing we are losing another greenfield site. But I do understand it is an allocated site in the local plan so I think we are going to have to support the application."

Mike Roberts, land and planning director for Beech Developments said: "We are delighted the planning committee approved the scheme. There has been a lot of interest from local people who want to purchase a new home, particularly from young families looking to get on to the housing ladder.

"It is certainly good news for our local workforce, many of who have been with us for more than six years and welcome continuous employment."
