CONWY Castle was bathed in purple light to celebrate International Women’s day last week.

About 50 members of the Gwynedd-Caernarfon Federation of Women's Institutes marked the day with a celebration at the Guildhall in Conwy.

Participants were welcomed with singing by soprano Sian Roberts, who is currently studying at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

Barbara Lawson Reay then gave an illustrated talk on the women's suffrage movement in North Wales.

Following the talk Conwy Castle was lit up in purple, one of the colours of the suffrage movement, and also the colour of the international day with attendees given a chance to see the site up close.

International Women's Day was designed to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
