A COLWYN Bay man has reportedly received death threats following the incident with former Liverpool ace and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

Andy Hughes was at the heart of the spitting altercation following Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool last weekend, where Carragher wound the window down on his Range Rover and spat at Mr Hughes and his 14-year-old daughter.

The ex-England international has been suspended by Sky until the end of the season following the incident, which was filmed by Mr Hughes whilst driving.

It also shows the Bay resident lightly taunting Carragher following United’s win, which led to the spitting and subsequent outrage nationwide.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Mr Hughes has urged the company not to sack Carragher over the issue and spoke about the threats received on social media regarding his welfare.

He said: “We have been feeling under siege. It has been really worrying.

“I have received threats, death threats and all kinds of abuse, and I don’t know how to deal with it. I worry for my daughter’s safety, I really do.

“Everyone makes mistakes. I don’t want him to lose his job. I enjoy listening to him, even though he is an ex-Liverpool player.

“It has obviously not turned out like I wanted.”

Mr Hughes has also spoken to police regarding the incident, which has left Carragher’s future in his £1 million-a-year job in question.

A statement from Sky, said: "Following an internal review, Sky has suspended Jamie Carragher for the remainder of the football season.

"Jamie has taken full responsibility for what has happened and we will ensure he gets the help he needs to guarantee something like this never happens again.

"Before the start of the next season we will sit down with Jamie to discuss whether he is ready to return to his role."
