A Red Arrows Hawk aircraft crashed and burst into flames on the runway at RAF Valley in Anglesey on Tuesday afternoon.

It is believed the pilot ejected before the aircraft crashed, and the Wales Air Ambulance was called to the airfield.

However the Hawk is a two seat aircraft and it is not known whether a passenger was in the back seat at the time of the accident.

So far there have only been reports of one parachute.

Air accident investigators will be conducting an examination of the wreckage to discover the cause of the accident.

Based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, all Red Arrows pilots have flown operationally in frontline aircraft before joining the display team.

RAF Valley is the base where RAF fighter pilots are trained, using Hawk aircraft similar to those used by the Red Arrows.
