Rhos-on-Sea promenade is set to remain closed to the public until at least Thursday.

The promenade at the at Cayley Embankment was closed off to traffic earlier this week and at the request of police is set to remain closed until at least Thursday.

A Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) spokesperson said high tides over the weekends were the cause of the closure and with these conditions set to continue throughout the week the stretch of road was set to remain closed.

Signs of the strong high tides are already evident with parts of footpath and road being thrown up onto the road and waves continuously crashing into the wall along the promenade.

Traffic usually travelling along the promenade is currently being diverted though the top of the Cayley Embankment in Rhos-on-Sea.

High Tides in Colwyn Bay on Monday and Tuesday reached 7.72 metres (m) and 7.68m respectively, but are due to begin decreasing tonight.
