Work on Conwy's new culture centre is set to begin next month.

Wynne Construction were awarded the contract to build the new £3.7 million Culture Centre on the old Bodlondeb School site.

The construction company will move onto the site next month and when it will start cleaning the site before they begin construction.

Scottish Power will also be carrying out work on site

The centre will incorporate a community heritage and arts hub, archive and area library and will aim to improve access to and enjoyment of Conwy’s archive, heritage and library collections for county residents and visitors to the area.

The new single storey building will have stunning views towards Conwy Castle and walls, and its green roof will blend into Bodlondeb Park’s leafy surroundings.

Cllr Mark Baker, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Community Development Services said, “We’re looking forward to seeing work on this exciting project start on site.

"This is an investment in our community’s culture; improving access to and enjoyment of Conwy’s archive, museum, and library collections.”

More than 80,000 catalogued documents and 1000 objects are currently in storage and will be moved to this new site upon its completion.

The collections shed light on every aspect of people’s lives throughout history: their communities, faith, school and education, working lives, culture, holidays and leisure.

The project is being parted funded by grants from HLF; Conwy Council's capital funding and sale of buildings team; the Rural Community Development Fund, and Gwynt y Môr funding in partnership with the Conwy Arts Trust.
