STAFF in Mothercare’s store in Llandudno are in the dark about their future as the company plans to close 50 stores in the UK.
The company has not announced which stores will close, but has confirmed 800 jobs throughout the UK will be affected.
Mothercare, which describes itself as the leading global retailer for parents and young children, has announced comprehensive measures to refinance its business and to restructure its UK store portfolio
A statement issued by Mothercare said: “We can’t comment on individual store closures until all staff have been informed, which is our absolute priority.
“Of course we regret having to close stores and the impact this will have on colleagues.
“The business was in an unsustainable situation and was in clear need of an appropriate resolution. Today’s comprehensive measures provide a renewed and stable financial structure for the business,”
It added the measures will allow Mothercare to accelerate a move to online retailing.
