A WOMAN whose ambition is to climb Mount Kilamanjiro for charity will hold a fund raising coffee morning in Llandudno.

It will be held at Gloddaeth United Church, Chapel Street, between 10.00am and 12.00am on Tuesday May 29.

Gwyneth Sharps, originally from Llandudno Junction, has dedicated herself to supporting the Sickle Cell Care charity, after seeing a friend suffer a severe pain crisis and being rushed to hospital. She works at Manchester College training teachers.

Gwyneth said: “To see my friend in such pain and at risk of death was terrifying, and motivated me to take action. A pain crisis can sometimes be fatal, and life expectancy for someone with Sickle Cell Disease is considerably lower.

“My fund raising campaign started this month with a five mile mud run which generated £450, and my fund raising has a year to run. I hope I can achieve my £6,000 target.”

Gwyneth added she plans to take part in a string of fund raising events before climbing Kilamanjiro, the highest mountain in Africa. She said: “I will also be doing the majority of my training for Kilimanjaro, taking part in night time climbs up Snowdon.”
