Fundraising efforts to save a Conwy-based church are beginning to ramp up.

Parishioners latest fundraiser - a concert of popular, classics and songs from the shows - raised more than £1600 towards their cause.

The St Michael's Church in Conwy was closed in February by the Bishop of Wrexham, Peter Brignall, and the diocese despite parishioners opposition.

Church-goers appealed the decision to no avail and have now began a process to have the church re-instated through the Vatican.

An appeal is currently with the Congregation of the Clergy, in the Vatican. Failing that parishioners will need to take the battle to the Apostolic Signatora.

This final appeal will require a canon lawyer which is what the fundraising is producing money for.

John Lewis, parishioner and one of the organisers of the concert, said," We are under no illusions; we will have to take this appeal to the top before we finish and we know that the services of a canon lawyer will not come cheap.

"We are in this for the long haul".

Staged in the town's Parish Church, St Mary's of the Anglican Church in Wales, the concert featured Christina Mason-Scheuermann, former resident pianist with one of Germany's leading orchestras, the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra.

The concert entertained the audience with songs including the Rustle of Spring, Claire de Lune, Warsaw Concerto and Fantaisie-Impromptu.
