MUCH of Conwy castle is enveloped in scaffolding in a refurbishment programme which will last until the end of the summer.
A spokesman for CADW, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service which works to conserve Wales’s heritage, explained the scaffolding has been erected in a general maintenance programme. He said: “It includes re pointing, removing vegetation from the castle walls and ensuring no stones are loose.”
He added the cost of the programme is commercially confidential, but the programme involves very skilled work.
Conwy castle is regarded as being amongst the finest surviving medieval fortifications in Britain. It was built for Edward I between 1277 and 1307.
