The Royal Air Force (RAF) Ensign was hoisted at Conwy County Borough Council's office last week.

The centenary event was held at Bodlondeb to commemorate the founding of the RAF.

Rev David Parry; air commodore Adrian Williams, air officer for Wales; cllr Peter Lewis, council chairman and cllr Gareth Jones council leader, were among those who attended.

The event opened with a prayer.

An introduction and short reflection on the anniversary was then held before the flags were raised.

There was also a reading from the Scripture, a prayer for the RAF and other armed forces prior to a blessing by rev Parry.

Cllr Lewis said: "It’s a real honour to show our support and to join the nation in commemorating the centenary of the founding of the Royal Air Force.

"It’s particularly significant for us here in Conwy County Borough as later this month we’ll be hosting the national Armed Forces Event.”

The Ensign, the official flag of the RAF, features the Union Jack and the blue, white and red roundels.

Special events have been held across North Wales to mark the RAF's 100th birthday.

Excitement is brewing ahead of UK's Armed Forces Day, to be held in Llandudno on Saturday, June 30. The Pioneer revealed last week that Princess Royal, Princess Anne, will attend the event which is expected to attract 250,000 people. Activities and displays will take place on the run up to the big day.

A centenary service will be held on Westminster Abbey on July 10.

A parade will follow in The Mall and there will be a flypast over Buckingham Palace.
