A PORTRAIT of Francis Chardon the man whose private collection of historic artefacts and works of art was donated to the people of Llandudno has been restored to its former glory.
The restored painting will be unveiled by cllr David Hawkins, Mayor of Llandudno on Saturday June 22, on the 91st anniversary of the museum being officially opened
The painting will take pride of place in the Chardon Gallery at the museum in Gloddaeth Street.
The portrait is by Robert Jones, a well known local artist. It depicts Francis Chardon in his late fifties wearing a relaxed summer suit and hat.
Mr Chardon was a keen and accomplished artist whose fine works, along with his varied collections, and house, he left to the people of Llandudno to establish a museum. This displays fine arts and crafts and promotes the education and appreciation of art as well as the history, natural history, geography and economy of Llandudno.
A spokeswoman for the museum said: "The painstaking restoration work was done by Diane Britton of Britton & Storey conservators. It required cleaning and retouching to areas of damage. The result is fantastic."
