Colwyn Bay squash star, Emily Whitlock, has won her 16th Professional Squash Association (PSA) world tour title.

The 24-year-old won the 2018 CAC Squash Open in Atlanta last month, coming up against competition from players from all over the world.

She passed through the tournament with relative ease disposing of America's Nessrine Ariffin three sets to none, Lucy Turmel (England) 3-0, Ho Tze-Lok (Hong Kong) 3-1 and taking out the final against Millie Tomlinson (Eng) 3-0.

Whitlock said: "I thought I played well overall. But my body holding up the whole week was probably the biggest achievement.

"The squash was solid and I’m just happy to have felt how I did last season when I got to #13 in the world. I actually think I’m playing better, which is a nice thought.

An added surprise for Whitlock at the tournament was running into former Llanrwst resident and international player, Rob Wilkins, who is now head coach of a club in the area and has been organising PSA events for both men and women.

The CAC Squash Open was the first women's event in Atlanta in more than 20 years.

She said: "It was a fantastic tournament and I hope to return next year. It’s always a bonus when there’s a friendly face hosting, especially when I’ve travelled a long way."

Whitlock's next major event will be in Le Port Marly, Paris, where she will take part in the Tournament of Pyramides (July 3-6), competing for the top prize of $15,000.

She will then enjoy a break from competitive tournaments until September 4, where she will take to the court in Nantes, France for the Open International De Squash de Nantes.
