GUTO Bebb MP for Aberconwy has resigned from his government job as minister for defence procurement.

The reason was to allow him to vote against the government’s Brexit bill in Parliament.

He was appointed to the job in January, having previously served as parliamentary under secretary of state at the Wales Office and a government whip from March 2016.

He was first elected as MP for Aberconwy in May 2010. He voted to remain in the 2016 European Union referendum.

Mr Bebb wanted to vote against the Customs Bill amendment to the bill which was tabled by Brexiteer Tories in the Parliamentary debate on Monday.

As a minister he was unable to vote against the government, therefore had to resign.

When the government backed the amendments it sparked a backlash from pro EU Tory MPs, who claimed the Prime Minister capitulated.

Downing Street agreed to accept the four amendments, and said they were consistent with the current EU White Paper where it sets out how it wants to trade with the EU in years to come.
