More than 1000 rubber ducks hit the water in Conwy on Saturday as part of an annual St David's Hospice event.

Thousands flocked to the Conwy Quay on Saturday for the annual Duck Race which saw rubber ducks of all shapes, sizes and designs hit the water in the aim to raising money for St David's Hospice.

The hospice sold more than 1000 ducks with each entry £1.

While a money from the weekend is still being counted, estimates on the amount raised have said to be about £2000.

The winning duck was 595 which saw Siona Hayden, who works in Conwy's Fisherman’s Chip Shop, take home £200 in prize money.

A new feature of this year was the corporate ducks, where local businesses dressed big ducks up with the public voting on which one they thought was the best dressed.

The winner was Llandudno's fruit and vegetable wholesalers The Orchard - who will receive a hamper for their success.

The business' ducks also held their own race with the Bank of Conwy entrant coming out victorious.

A St David's Hospice community fundraiser, James Wilde, said: "The event was a great success for us and has been a fixture in the hospice calendar for many years.

"I’d like to thank everyone who bought a duck and voted on the best dressed duck and to the staff and volunteers who made the day be the best it could.

"The money raised will go a long way towards helping the vital work we do here at St David’s Hospice."
