Motorists will no longer be able to park on a narrow strip of road through Mostyn Champneys.

Double yellow lines have been places on both sides of Charlotte Road, in the Mostyn Champneys Retail Park to prevent people from parking on the road and causing congestion in the already busy retail area.

This comes just months after traffic lights were removed from the McDonald's end of Charlotte Road to ease traffic flow in and out of the park.

Former Llandudno mayor Francis Davies had been campaigning to have double yellow lines installed on Charlotte Road for more than two years.

He said he was thrilled they had finally been installed.

Cllr Francis said: "It was a nightmare, someone could have got killed. It was a dangerous situation and retailers were up in arms because it (the congestion) was putting people off from coming.

"It will be clear now so people can walk across the road with no fear. We want people to be able to use the trading estate safely and safety was an issue."

Owners of Mostyn Champneys, Mostyn Estates, said they would be excited to see traffic congestion through the area eased and hopefully encourage more shoppers to the park.

Mostyn Estate's managing director, Edward Hiller, said: "At peak periods, traffic flows into and out of Mostyn Champneys have been congested.

"Part of the solution to this is is to free up the junctions at either end of Charlotte Road because occasional events at Venue Cymru can lead to parking issues nearby. Particularly during matinee performances.

"However, I believe the matter could have been effectively dealt with by the imposition of single lines that did not prohibit evening parking, but kept the route free at key trading periods."

While the former Llandudno mayor, Mr Davies, was strongly for the move to introduce lines current mayor David Hawkins remained on the fence about the decision and remained sceptical about the decision to introduce the lines.

Cllr Hawkins said: "I wasn’t exactly for them. I wasn’t against them in particular either.

"I think it’s more about Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) trying to get people into their overcharging car park in venue cymru."

A CCBC spokesperson said the decision was made following a review of the traffic flow in the area and the introduction of double yellow lines would hopefully help traffic flow freely.

Llandudno residents took to social media last week to express their pleasure at the decision to finally install the double yellow lines on Charlotte Road.

More than 120 members from the Facebook group 'You know you are from Llandudno if you...' shared their praise after one resident posted a photo of the new lines on the page last week.
