Two men were attacked last night in an attempted robbery in Old Colwyn.

North Wales Police were called at about midnight last night to reports two men, aged 63 and 78, had been attacked on the junction at Abergele Road and Church Walks, by the Cuckoo Club.

The offender, who is described as a white male in his late 20s with very short hair and wearing dark clothing, demanded money from the two men.

Detective Inspector Simon Kneale, St Asaph CID, said: ‘This was a particularly nasty, unprovoked attack on two elderly gentlemen who were just walking home after a night out.

“The suspect approached from behind and punched the victims to the head, knocking one of them to the ground and demanded money. The victims managed to fight back and the offender fled on foot along the main road.

“Fortunately incidents such as this are very rare, but we would just ask members of the public to be vigilant if walking late at night. There will be increased police patrols in the area and a team of detectives are in the process of examining CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

“I would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at around midnight on Tuesday July 31 and especially from any drivers who may have been travelling along Abergele Road and have Dashcams."
