Plans for a £3 million upgrade of Venue Cyrmu have been approved and are due to begin in September.

The project will see large scale works to the appearance and layout of the theatre and conference centre.

European Union money, in the sum of £1.5 million, was secured on the understanding that Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) would match fund it which cabinet members agreed on during a meeting last week.

Cabinet approved an amount of £1,000,000 in 2018/19 and £481,938 in 2019/2020 from the projects match funding provision to meet that given by the European Union and Welsh Government for the reconfiguration.

The  plans, which received planning permission last week, would see walls being removed in the entrance foyer and the erection of new ground floor curtain glazing and entrance doors.

There would also be a new second floor dance studio and conference room.

It is also proposed that would be work done to the delivery and service yard, to include new access ramp and refurbishments as well as new windows and doors to the front and rear of the building.

The work is due to start in September 2018 and is expected to be completed during the summer of 2019.

Work will be planned around Venue Cymru’s calendar of events to avoid any cancellations and minimise disruption.
