SHREK the musical has layers and every part is as good as the last!

One of the most loved animated movies of all time comes to life on the Venue Cymru stage and doesn't disappoint with audiences being treated to everything you have come to love about Shrek and more.

The play follows the much-loved storyline of the unlikely hero Shrek as he attempts to get his swamp back from homeless fairytale characters.

Along the way he makes a slightly-annoying but loyal friend and finds that even ogres can find true love.

Steffan Harri does a fantastic job as Shrek, bringing to life the ogre and having the audience falling in love with the big green giant.

Amelia Lily does a flawless job as Princess Fiona as she continually shows of her singing prowess throughout a variety of musical numbers as she goes through the ups and downs of finding love in the form of an ogre.

But it is Samuel Holmes' portrayal of the short tempered Lord Farquaad that steals the show.

Despite spending the entire play on his knees he is by far the funniest on the stage with his witty jokes and use of his costume and short legs.

It is amazing how he makes his way across the stage with ease during musical numbers and plays fun with his costume.

Marcus Ayton brought a different spin to the classic donkey role, adding a bit of 'sassiness' to the adored character.

The stage team's ability to bring the dragon was amazing - it was like having a real life dragon flying around the stage. Coupled with the lovely voice of Lucinda Shaw, it really was a sight to behold.

Along with the main characters all the misfit fairytale characters from Far Far Away made the trip to Llandudno as well.

Gingy, the three little pigs and Pinocchio were among those characters.

Pinocchio was particularly good with Joseph Dockree able to keep his voice at the high pitch that is associated with the not so real boy, even while belting out a tune or two.

The flawless scene changes make it feel like you are actually in the enchanted forest, Duloc with Lord Farquaad or running through the dragon guarded castle to save Princess Fiona with Shrek and his noble steed.

The life like costumes make the characters look real and its as if the actual fairytale creatures running around on the stage.

Along with some of the quirky, comical and unforgettable one liners that have made its way into the musical a number of familiar soundtracks are also featured.

The climactic 'I'm a believer' caps off the feel good performance while the comical 'Welcome to Duloc' scene is brought to life with a very funny musical number.

A number of other musical numbers are added to the storyline for the play.

Shrek has something for everyone from comedy, musical numbers and the fairytale characters for the younger ones.

Shrek the musical is playing at Venue Cymru until Sunday, September 2.
