RED Pandas were celebrated during an awareness week.

Talks and activities took place at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, Colwyn Bay, earlier this month to mark Red Panda Week. Facts about the animals - including that their tails are covered in red and white rings and are used for balance - were released on the zoo's social media.

It was also revealed that Red Pandas have an additional thumb, like their cousin the Giant Panda, which is used for grabbing bamboo sticks.

Marcia Azevedo Moreira, marketing and sales manager at the zoo, said: "Keepers did daily talks on Red Pandas - how they live, how they’re kept and how endangered they are in the wild. These talks were very well attended and attracted a lot of visitors who were interested in knowing more.

"We also did a social media takeover so it was a week full of Red Panda social media facts.

"We had some kids activities books outside the enclosure for the children to take home."

This week is Red Squirrel Awareness Week at the zoo. Facts will be shared across the zoo's social media.
