Conwy council are only weeks away from moving into new £38 million offices.

About 780 staff members are set to move onto the site next month once Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) are handed the keys to the new Coed Pella offices.

Work has been going on the building since late last year and is coming to completion, as scheduled, set to be opened to the public by mid-way through next month.

The new four-storey office building on Conway Road in Colwyn Bay will house key frontline services, including social services, housing, regulatory services and community development services.

CCBC said the intention is to have public-facing services at a central, more accessible location, making it easier for people to access the services they need.

They said Coed Pella is set to play a significant role in modernising and streamlining the council’s operations, as well as playing a part in the regeneration of the town.

Cllr Gareth Jones, Council Leader said: “Doing nothing was not an option. We had to solve a number of issues with our office accommodation, including the lease expiring at Dinerth Road in Rhos on Sea and a backlog of maintenance at the Civic Offices and other buildings.

“When this project started in 2013 the Council had twenty-five offices; the aim has been to streamline and consolidate the Council’s premises to just three main offices – making savings by disposing of properties.

“So when we get the keys to Coed Pella later this month, it will replace a number of outdated buildings across the county - offering a great environment for residents to access a wide range of services all under one roof.”

Staff got their first look inside the building early last month and said they were excited about moving into their new offices.

Head of community development services, Marianne Jackson, said: "We are really excited. We will have the whole team in here new offices) and it will allow us to be flexible, move around between spaces, and share it with other specific areas.

"It will mean we are not confined and can communicate with other colleagues in other departments.

"It is the first time ever some of us will all be together."

The new office building has been developed and financed by Muse Developments Ltd.

Under a mortgage-type arrangement, the council will rent the offices on a 40-year lease, with the option to buy it at the end.
