GILBERT and Sullivan superfans will stage comic turns and twists galore this weekend.

The Rhos-on-Sea Savoyards a will revive the Victorian collaborative powerhouse’s comic opera Ruddigore for two nights from Saturday, October 27 and Sunday 28.

Taking their name from 'Savoy' style theatre, the art form perfected by dramatist WS Gilbert and the composer Arthur Sullivan, the troupe will perform the appropriately spooky Ruddigore or, The Witch's Curse.

Centuries ago, Sir Rupert Murgatroyd, the first Baronet of Ruddigore, had persecuted witches. One of his victims, as she was burnt at the stake, cursed all future Baronets of Ruddigore to commit a crime every day, or perish in inconceivable agonies.

The story follows Robin Oakapple, a baron in disguise who has been living as a farmer for years, working up the courage to ask the beautiful village maiden Rose Maybud for her hand.

However, Robin - or more properly, Sir Ruthven, the Baronet of Ruddigore has maitianed his life icognitio at the expense of his younger brother Despard who has assumed the title and curse in his absence.

Betrayed by his foster-brother Richard, Robin is discovered and must make amends and up for lost time by of committing a crime every day in order to appease the curse--and the ghosts of all ancestors past.

A satirical take on the Victorian Melodrama genre, Ruddigore’s zany plot has it all-- a dreadful curse, a group of professional bridesmaids desperate for at least one marriage- or three – as well as curses, intrigue, and even a wicked villain who tries to abscond with the fair maiden.

With a wealth of colourful characters of both 'mortals' and 'ghosts', find out if Robin can lift the curse, lead the honest life he loves and earn Rose's hand and, most importantly, whether the bridesmaids will finally get their wedding.
