Residents are objecting plans for a 12.5m pole in Colwyn Bay

RESIDENTS say they are prepared to move if a phone mast measuring more than 12 metres planned for outside their home is given the go ahead.

Plans by mobile phone giant Vodafone for the 4G mast on Llanwrst Road in Colwyn Bay, has led Graeme Tunstall, whose house is just four metres away from the proposed plot, to the launch of an online petition which currently has more than 150 signatures.

Mr Tunstall, who has been living in his property for three years but admits if he could find someone to buy his house he would move if the mast was approved, said: “I was shocked and astounded that such an application would even get to this stage without us being consulted. It is bordering my plot and four metres from my lounge. Only five properties in the community were sent notifications of the application. It frightens me to think that this application could get approved through the back door and receive no objections from the community.”

The application for the 12.5 metre mast was submitted by Cornerstone Telecommunications Ltd and Vodafone Ltd with plans to improve the signal for mobile phones on Colwyn Bay heights.

Mr Tunstall said: “It would have a massive detrimental effect on our quality of life. How can my children be expected to live, sleep and play within such close vicinity to this monstrosity with a constant daily worry their health is being affected.”

Supporting information accompanying the application states the mast is required to “provide improved indoor voice calls, where currently there is no indoor coverage. This requirement is being proposed by the operator to ensure that all areas benefit from high speed internet connections in line with the Welsh Government aspirations for improved service.”

Samantha Roberts, who has been a resident on Llanwrst Road for 16 years, said: “As a family we were shocked but more disappointed that only five houses were notified.

“It seems extremely unfair that the view from our houses and the value of our property is not considered in this process, when we have worked hard to maintain our properties in this beautiful area.

”It seems that residents opinions are completely disregarded.”

The consultation period ends on November 30. Visit the petition page at
