Old Colwyn resident annoyed at ongoing build noise

ONGOING work at a housing development has led to one resident expressing her anger at what she claims is an unacceptable situation.

Work on the building of 76-home Bryn Y Mor development on Dolwen Road started in September 2015, despite a three-year fight from residents and months of indecision and deferrals from Conwy Council’s Planning Committee.

The first tenants moved in during December 2016 and generators have been put in place to provide them electricity.

Resident Gail Jones said: “This generator can be heard by the residents of Dolwen Road and Bro Elian 24 hours a day.

“MacBryde started building in September 2015 so why hasn't the electricity supply been sorted out? Why is it the residents of Dolwen Road who are having to suffer yet more inconvenience from the building of these houses?”

Other issues have also been highlighted by Mrs Jones including Dolwen Road residents being unable to use their garden, windows and cars being dirtied by dust and work being done “outside permitted times”.

Mrs Jones said: “We were unable to use our gardens last summer, had to keep our windows closed and continuously clean our windows and cars due to all the dust caused by the lorries from the site dropping mud on the the road and then MacBryde not cleaning it up properly.”

“We have had to put up with them starting work and finishing outside of permitted times, working all weekend having deliveries out of permitted times parking all over Dolwen Road resulting in many near accidents.”

Macbryde Homes who are offering two, three and four bedroom properties on the site, acknowledged the issues.

A spokesperson said: “We appreciate there have been instances of inconvenience for the residents living near to Bryn Y Mor and we work constantly to minimise these.

“In the case of the recently installed generator, we wish to confirm that whilst we have installed additional acoustic fencing around the plant, we appreciate the level of sound transfer is still a cause of inconvenience for nearby residents and are therefore replacing it with a quieter one as soon as possible.”
