David Walliams' The First Hippo on the Moon stage adaptation to come to Llandudno

A STAGE adaptation of David Walliams’ much-loved children’s book, The First Hippo on the Moon, will be stopping in Llandudno on its UK tour.

The actor and comedian has taken the literary world by storm and his brilliantly funny stories are adored by children the world over.

The First Hippo on the Moon is a funny space adventure which sees the enormously rich Hercules Waldorf-Franklin III and ingenious Shelia compete to be the first hippo to walk the lunar surface.

The production, which visits Venue Cymru on June 18, has been adapted by Oliver Lansley, artistic director of the Les Enfants Terribles and Les Petits theatre companies.

His other recent adaptations have included the immersive dining experience Dinner at the Twits and Alice’s Adventure’s Underground.

The puppets for The First Hippo on the Moon have been created by Nick Barnes and Finn Caldwell, who have previously collaborated on War Horse and The Lorax. 

The cast consists of Dominic Allen who has starred in The Crucible and Sleeping Beauty (Bristol Old Vic) and Peter Pan (York Theatre Royal); Alice Bounce, whose theatre credits include include Dinner at the Twits, Alice’s Adventures Underground and The Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie (Les Enfants Terribles); Caroline Bowman who is both a performer and puppet maker; Owen Jenkins, who has starred in theatre productions such as The Game’s Afoot, and Rosie Nicholls, whose acting credits include Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs 2: The Magic Cutlass.

The show is suitable for children aged three and over.
