IF YOU are looking for a memorable night of musical theatre Sister Act is the best bar nun.

This divine version of the much-loved 90s movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith not only provided heavenly performances at Venue Cymru but tons of fun.

Sandra Marvin is sensational as our central character Deloris Van Cartier, forced to flee her previous life after witnessing a murder, and take refuge in a convent.

Marvin’s powerhouse performance propels this production to greater heights particularly on tracks Fabulous Baby!, Take Me To Heaven, and Raise Your Voice.

However, it is during her quieter moments that she shines upon realising she must put away her dreams of stardom and embrace her newly found love for the sisterly order on the title track Sister Act.

This nun on the run tale also features beloved Birds of a Feather star Lesley Joseph as Mother Superior.

Her heartfelt portrayal sees her balance her responsibilities to her convent collective as abbess and her Christian duty to help Deloris.

Her version of Here Within These Walls was one of the show’s standout moments.

Clive Rowe was fantastic as lovelorn Eddie Southern, whose ability to master a quick costume change is only matched by his affection for Deloris.

His emotionally charged version of the song I Could Be That Guy was another memorable moment.

Damian Buhagiar (Pablo) Bradley Judge (TJ) and Castell Parker as Joey provided comic relief as the hapless gang of mobsters given the task of learning the whereabouts of Deloris.

Jeremy Secomb was great as Curtis Jackson the sinister 70s mobster and one-time boyfriend of our intrepid heroine.

Catherine Millsom (Sister Mary Patrick), Anne Smith (Sister Mary Lazarus), Tricia Deighton (Sister Mary Theresa) and Lori Haley Fox (Sister Mary Martin of Tours) were magnificent as the cloister of nuns however it was Lizzie Bea that proved a revelation.

Her moving performance as the mealy-mouthed Sister Mary Robert on the song The Life I Never Led proved another standout moment.

Do yourself a favour, get together a group of your pals and catch this celebration of sisterhood at Venue Cymru until Saturday February 18.
