MOCHDRE FC and cricket club will benefit from two new 50-seater stands.

The club's chairman Martin Brady submitted a planning application for the stands at Swan Road, Mochdre.

Earlier this week, Mr Brady said the stands were part of Mochdre Sports Association’s 10-year strategy to transform the clubs and benefit the community.

At a planning committee meeting on Wednesday at Conwy’s Bodlondeb HQ, councillors backed the plans.

“I’d like to propose we go with the officers’ recommendation to grant the permission,” said Cllr Alan Hunter.

“It’s good that we are seeing the sports association being able to work to that.”

Cllr Stephen Price asked to be removed from the vote as he had recently assisted the sports association with a grant.

The proposal was seconded by Cllr Mandy Hawkins and the vote was unanimous.

The stands will be built on an ‘L’ shaped piece of land within the southern corner adjacent to the existing football pitch.

The proposed stands would be positioned adjacent to the southeast and southwest sides of the pitch, sited behind the goal and adjacent to the half-way line respectively.

Each stand will consist of three rows of seats on inclining steps, covered by a rectangular shaped canopy with a ‘lean-to-roof’.

The applicant says the seating will be similar to Llangollen Football Club’s new stand but green in colour.

The ground can be accessed off Swan Road to the west, which leads to a car park and clubhouse..
