A YOUNG footballer from Llandudno has secured a scholarship at a university in the United States.

Fabrizio Murtas, 18, will embark on a four-year strength and conditioning program at Hofstra University, New York in the summer, which will also allow him to showcase his football talent.

A forward for Llandudno FC, Murtas was previously a part of Caernarfon Town’s academy, and is only in his first year in senior football.

Competing in the Cymru North, he has displayed outstanding form, playing a pivotal role in Llandudno's resurgence with four goals in his last five matches and 12 goals for the season.

Speaking to Sport Thought about his season and the move to America, he said: "My ambitions for the future are, of course, to play at the highest level I’m able to.

“I’m heading out to America in August to play football over there on a scholarship, which I’m very excited about. Training day in and day out is going to be very important to my development and hopefully help me achieve great things in the future."

"I’m really excited about the opportunity to go and play over in America.

“It’s going to be something completely different, which I’m looking forward to. The fact that it’ll be a full-time environment with top coaches really has interested me, as I’m going to improve massively as a player.

“I feel like the whole experience is going to improve me massively as a person also.

“Of course, leaving my family is going to be tough, but I know that they will all support me the whole way through - I just can’t wait to get out there and get going with it all."
