LLANDUDNO lifeboat are keen to recruit much-needed volunteers.

There are opportunities to join both the Visits Team and the Lifeboat Shop.

Myfanwy Jones joined the charity in March 2017 as Lifeboat Visits Officer and Water Safety Advisor.

Myfanwy, who decided to start volunteering after previously working for the RNLI, said: "I got to know many of the crew in the region and admired them all. When I was asked to consider the voluntary position of visits officer at Llandudno, I didn’t hesitate - I wanted to give something back to these wonderful people.

"By volunteering for the RNLI, volunteers are joining a worthy cause and playing their part in saving lives at sea.

"The best part of it all is the people; appreciating how nice, generous and selfless they can be."

Myfanwy received a special framed letter sent by RNLI Chief Executive Mark Dowie to mark her contribution. This stated that Myfanwy was "always going beyond expectation, her contribution has helped the RNLI to continue save lives at sea."

On receiving her award, Myfanwy said: "Setting up the Visitor Centre took a lot of work, but the results made it all worthwhile; over 14,000 people came to see us in our first two years, and we continue to welcome many visitors including thousands of school children and young people."

Captain Marcus Elliott, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Llandudno, said: 'Myfanwy has played a massive part in creating a collective purpose for all of the crew and volunteers in our life saving endeavours. She has certainly led the way in enhancing our engagement with the public, who continue to give us such invaluable support."

This year Myfanwy is handing over the responsibility for visits to her colleague Nick Walton who will continue to develop new opportunities for the public to engage with the activities of a busy lifeboat station.

Jonathan Coe, volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer, said: "Volunteering for the RNLI in our bicentenary year is a real privilege which I would recommend to anyone.

"At Llandudno there are currently opportunities to join both the Visits Team and the Lifeboat Shop volunteers."
