MEMBERS of the public are being invited to a free afternoon brass band concert at Venue Cymru in Llandudno.

The performance, at Sunday, May 26, by touring band Oddfellows Brass, is being hosted by local friendly society Deeside and Llandudno Oddfellows and starts at 3pm.

Seats are available on a first come, first served basis and attendees are encouraged to arrive early.

Based in Leicestershire, the 28-piece band regularly competes at local and national level.

The show, which will last around two hours with an interval, will cover genres such as classical, opera, stage and film, as well as traditional brass band works and compositions.

Rob Boulter, founder and former musical director of Oddfellows Brass, still plays in the band.

He describes the show as the “ideal introduction to a live brass band, and also right up the street of seasoned concert-goers”.

The Oddfellows is one of the UK’s oldest and largest friendly societies and has sponsored and supported the band since its formation in 1981.

The concert is part of the Society’s national annual conference event programme, which is being held in Llandudno for the fourth time in its more than 200 year history, the first being in 1992.

Rob added: “Playing the conference is a real highlight of our calendar. It’s always very popular and a brilliant atmosphere.”

Branch Secretary of the Oddfellows’ Deeside and Llandudno Branch, Denise Turner, said: “We’re very much looking forward to welcoming the band back to Llandudno.

“The concert is free, there are no tickets and there is no need to book. Just turn up in good time and enjoy this wonderful show with us.”

On the day, concert-goers will be able to find out more about Deeside and Llandudno Oddfellows, the activities it organises and other benefits Oddfellows members can access, such as care and welfare support and a travel club.

Denise added: “If you can’t make it, don’t worry. We’ve got plenty more brilliant events coming up. There’s something for everyone and a warm welcome is guaranteed.”

Deeside and Llandudno Oddfellows have a weekly coffee morning at Gwesty Links Hotel every Monday at 11am.

Also coming up is a day trip to The Iron Works in Oswestry on Tuesday, June 18, and a ‘dine out’ at Pen Y Bont Farm in Mold at 6.30pm on Thursday, June 27.
