A CONWY council public consultation form has been branded “insulting.”
Conwy County Borough Council has asked people making Local Development Plan representations to fill out an equal opportunities form.
The move has sparked outrage with respondents claiming the questions such as “Are you heterosexual, lesbian, bisexual or do not wish to say?” are intrusive.
Cllr Myra Wigzell, who represents Penrhyn Bay, argued the survey is unacceptable.
She said the form was an insert in the representation form she was asked to fill in when objecting to plans in the area including a housing estate on farmland off Derwen Lane, Penrhyn Side.
She said: “Why do they need to know this information when you are objecting to council plans. It is intrusive and insulting. It is just irrelevant. I never seen anything like it before.”
Other questions include “Do you live in the gender role opposite to that assigned at birth?”
Cllr Wigzell said: “I didn’t even understand what that meant it took me 20 minutes to work it out. What difference does it make.
“What I want to know is would these questions be considered when taking your representations into account. It should not matter, everyone should be equal. I spoke to planning and they don’t even know why the form was included.”
The form also asks if you are male, female or transgender. A spokeswoman for Conwy County Borough Council said: “As with any major consultation exercise we must ensure that we do not unwittingly discriminate on the grounds of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief.”
