LLANDUDNO risks being left behind as other towns get access to super-fast internet.
The Welsh Assembly Government's FibreSpeed plan will allow fast connection speeds for businesses at certain locations along the North Wales coast including Llandudno Junction, St Asaph Business Park and Parc Caer Seion in Conwy - but not Llandudno.
Mike Bird, senior surveyor for Mostyn Estates is now urging local businesses to complete a questionnaire to see if they want the service in the town.
He said: “We are surprised to be left in this position. We think Llandudno risks being left behind others who will be getting high-speed internet access.
“Following discussions with a number of organisations on the technical issues and costs, we feel it may well be possible to connect Llandudno to the FibreSpeed network.”
A spokesperson for the Welsh Assembly said: "The Welsh Assembly Government has invested up to £30M in the FibreSpeed network across North Wales which initially links major business parks with access to very high speed affordable broadband services.
"The network has been designed so that as many businesses and citizens as possible can benefit from the investment made by ensuring the fibre optic route runs through or close to other centres of population.
"The fibre cable does run through Llandudno Junction and there are proposals to establish an additional point of presence on the network at Llandudno Junction where services can be provided by FibreSpeed Service Providers to the surrounding areas.
"There is already a point of presence and a wireless tower installed at Parc Caer Seion, Conwy which allows for broadband services to be provided to the surrounding areas including the Llandudno area."
