FOOTBALL: Washout puts brake on title chasing bid

A WATERLOGGED pitch denied the prospect of a potentially exciting and important game being played out between title challengers Colwyn Bay and Lancaster at Llanelian Road on Saturday.

The Bay also lost their top spot in the Unibond First Division North League to Curzon Albion, with doubts whether the scheduled game against Warrington Town at home would be played with fans having to wait until December 12 to Rossendale for a home league game.

Bay's new signing, Adriano Rigoglioso from Conference club Grays Athletic is installed in the squad and available on Saturday. The Merseyside-based 30-year-old, who has been training full-time at Chester City recently, played in the same Liverpool FA Youth Cup winning side as Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher. He also has also had spells at Morecambe, Doncaster Rovers and Forest Green Rovers.

He was impressed with the set-up at Llanelian Road when he played in a pre-season friendly for the Bay, and has agreed to sign this week after failing to gain a regular place at Grays.

“We see him as filling the role played by Rob Hopley before he got injured and hopefully his experience will help us get where we want to be,” said manager Neil Young.

Disappointing injury news for the Bay, is that new defensive signing Danny Grannon injured knee ligaments in last Saturday's defeat at AFC Fylde and is likely to be out of action for two to three weeks.

Bay will play Rhyl in the North Wales Challenge cup at home on Tuesday December 8.
