COLWYN Bay's away game at FC Halifax Town on Saturday was called-off.

FC Halifax Town was given clearance to take the exceptional step of calling the game off the day before the fixture due to the icy conditions.

The frozen pitch has been covered with more than 10 inches of snow.

Colwyn Bay football club will be praying that the weather will relent to set up bumper crowds for an attractive and crucial four days against Mossley at home on Saturday and a top of the table clash against rivals Lancaster City on Tuesday night.

Manager Neil Young is champing at the bit to get his players on the field to revitalise Bay's championship fight that stalled at home to Radcliffe Borough when they lost 4-1 - a defeat Young labelled "diabolical" and warned his players they had to improve and quickly.

Bay have looked to strengthen their squad particularly in central defence and at striker and Young has moved to set up two loan deals in these areas with agreement reached on signing 6ft 3ins central defender Danny Meadowcroft from Conference North side Northwich Victoria and young striker Alex Tichiner who arrives from Crewe Alexandra.

Meadowcroft is the former Halifax Town captain, who has also had spells with Stockport County, Morecambe and Droylsden, rejoined Northwich in March last year and was influential in them ending last season with six successive wins. He has recently recovered from injury and joins the Seagulls initially for a month.

Alex Titchener, who has a one-month loan deal, is a Towyn boy in his first professional year at Crewe and has been included on the substitute bench for the first team this season.

Alex is described as quick and a good finisher who scores goals regularly.
