AS PANTO season closes for another year, theatres in Colwyn Bay and Llandudno are celebrating a bumper year at the box office.
Thousands of people packed into sold-out shows to enjoy the seasonal productions, with record numbers of tickets being sold.
Theatr Colwyn in Colwyn Bay presented traditional pantomime Dick Whittington, which proved popular with local residents and visitors to the town.
Phil Batty, manager of Theatr Colwyn, said: “Dick Whittington was a very successful production and we had lots of positive feedback from our patrons.
“During the run, we had people booking tickets from as far afield as Lincoln and Hereford and also some patrons who were holidaying in the area from places such as New Zealand and the USA came along to see what panto was all about!”
In Llandudno, Venue Cymru welcomed 38,480 people who watched this year’s pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarf starring Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood; beating last year's audience total by 3,000 people.
A majority of the audiences are believed to have come from North Wales, Cheshire and Merseyside, but people from across the country still flocked to the town, with one of the furthest visitors being a party from the Hebrides.
Richard Jones, marketing manager for Venue Cymru, said: “This year’s production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has broken all previous box office records making this our most successful pantomime to date.
We have had fantastic feedback from the audiences which after all the hard work put in by the cast and staff is fantastic.”
Although the pantomime has only just left town, thoughts are already on next year's production.
Richard added: “Most people won't think about pantomime again now until next December but our 2010/11 pantomime, Cinderella, is already on sale so we’re working on next Christmas already!”
