INTRIGUE, melodrama and skulduggery feature in Welsh National Opera’s Spring 2010 season including an opera set on the world famous Orient Express.
The WNO will be returning to Llandudno's Venue Cymru to present these three stunning productions:
The Abduction from the Seraglio
Set on the 1920s Orient Express, director James Robinson’s new production of Mozart’s witty and highly entertaining opera sees the return of former WNO Associate Artist Robin Tritschler as Belmonte and Lisette Oropesa making her UK debut as Konstanze.
Greek bass Petros Magoulas also makes his UK debut as Osmin and Wynne Evans and Claire Ormshaw return to WNO. The award winning Rinaldo Alessandrini will conduct all performances.
Tosca
A revival of Michael Blakemore’s stunning period production of Puccini’s dramatic and enthralling classic welcomes back Elisabete Matos to the Company as Tosca and the return of Robert Hayward as Scarpia.
Geraint Dodd steps into the shoes of Cavaradossi, with WNO’s Music Director Lothar Koenigs conducting.
Carmen
2010 marks the return of WNO’s classic production in the 135th anniversary year of the first performance of Bizet’s ever-popular opera.
Patricia Bardon plays Carmen with Gwyn Hughes Jones as Don José and former Cardiff Singer of the World Wales representative Sarah-Jane Davies making her WNO debut as Micaёla.
For the first year Welsh National Opera are holding a one off day of free events while on tour in Llandudno to give an experience of what happens beyond the main stage on Saturday, March 13.
Featuring events for all the family including foyer concerts, singing and music workshops and arts and crafts, it will give a fascinating insight into the world of opera.
