A RHOS on Sea man had a lucky escape from a chip pan fire.
Firefighters were called to a property on Mauldeth Road on Tuesday, February 2 at 5.01pm. They were alerted by neighbours who saw smoke coming from the house.
The man made his own way out of the home and was assessed by paramedics.
Justin Evans, a senior fire officer for North Wales Fire and Rescue, issued warnings to residents after it was discovered there were no smoke alarms in the home. He said: “Not having working smoke alarms fitted in your home is playing a game of chance with your life and the lives of your family.”
The fire was started by a chip pan, which was left unattended. Mr Evans said: “Chip pans can easily cause a fire in the home. Left unattended, in just a few minutes, the oil can overheat and cause the pan to ignite.
“Fire catches hold quickly, and can cause serious injuries and devastation to a property. Our advice is to throw away your old chip pan. We will provide a safer thermostatically controlled deep fat fryer instead."
