A LLYSFAEN teenager is putting her best foot forward to teach young people on her housing estate to dance.

Tara-Jane Warburton, 16, who lives on the Peulwys Estate, has been dancing since she could walk, and has decided to lend her talents to her community by holding street-dancing lessons.

She said: “I knew a few kids who like to dance. I have been dancing for 15 years so I thought why don’t I teach them and do a show or something around Christmas.”

The dedicated teenager contacted the headteacher of Ysgol Tan Y Marian, Paul Davies, and managed to secure an evening session on Mondays and Thursdays where young people between the ages of 6-15 can learn to dance in the hip-hop style.

She added: “I know about 20-25 kids who are interested - there is a demand and it's not just in Peulwys, there are young people in Colwyn Bay as well.”

Tara, who is currently in her first year at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, was taught to dance by her auntie at her grandmother's dancing school.

With a goal of being a choreographer, she believes the popularity of dance is sure to carry on.

She added: “It’s really good for the kids because it gets them off the street. It's something to look forward to. And it's really good for fitness.” Tara has been supported by local youth event organiser Chris Sayle, who was thrilled with Tara's hard work.

She said: “Even when you talk to Tara she’s dancing - she just doesn't stand still! She’s just an amazing young person and I’m just so proud of how hard she's working to make this happen.

“There are so many talented young people and there is nothing going on for them. She’s performing a civic duty with this and it’s going to show Colwyn Bay how everyone should be really proud of these kids.”
