Colwyn Bay Cricket club hosts top county match

GLAMORGAN County Cricket Club make a welcome return to Rhos on Sea in August with two high-profile fixtures as Colwyn Bay look to complete the signing of South African pro William Hantam.

Worcestershire visit the Rhos on Sea ground on Monday, August 9 for a four-day County Championship match against Glamorgan with an 11am start each day.

Up to 12,000 spectators could turn out for the matches over the four days.

On Sunday, August 8 the club hosts an ECB 40 league match between Glamorgan Dragons and Lancashire Lightning with stumps pitched at 1pm.

Brian Hughes, CBCC chairman said: “This is good news for the club, but it is good news for the area. It is the only first class cricket played in North Wales.

“The whole area gives support. It is good for the area, for hotels, cafes and shops. The weather is the key, given the weather it is always well supported.”

Colwyn Bay Cricket Club is also hosting ECB 40 match on Bank Holiday Monday, August 30 when the ECB Recreational XI (The Unicorns) will play Lancashire CCC, with stumps pitched at 1pm.

The club is also looking to secure the signing of 26-year-old left-handed South African all-rounder William Hantam after a deal for fellow countryman Juan ‘Rusty’ Theron fell through because on injury.

The Western Province star from Cape Town, previously played for Prestatyn in 2007.

He has scored 920 runs in 36 first-class innings with a high score of 102 and has taken 57 wickets for 1746 runs with a best score of 6 wickets for 39 runs.

Mr Hughes said: “ We are looking forward to the season. We hope that William Hantam will be joining us for the season. We will be looking to have another good season.”
