GOOGLE Street View has concerned local residents who feel the tool is an invasion of privacy.

The Pioneer reported last week the nationwide roll out of the controversial mapping scheme, which allows web users to view and explore 360 degree street-level imagery of more than 238,000 miles of road.

Commenting on our Facebook site, Vicky Harvey expressed her concern over the inadequacy of the face-blurring technology used to safeguard privacy.

She wrote: "The fact that I can actually recognise the local kids is a cause for concern. Especially when one of them is my son! Everywhere you go these days you have to have permission to take pictures of children due to child protection."

And writing on our website, username Blackpool wrote: "My property is not a commercial business and to have it displayed without my permission worldwide is a total disgrace. I have seen my property displayed on google maps and the only reason I can believe it's there is for potential misuse! Please will your newspaper publish how I can get it removed from Google street Maps."
