A PUBLIC meeting to discuss the fate of Corwen Pavilion will be held next week.
The pavilion, built in 1911, was closed on March 2 due to a catalogue of serious health and safety problems.
A meeting, arranged by Denbighshire County Council, will be held on Thursday, April 8 at 7pm at the Corwen Sports Pavilion on Green Lane.
This will be a chance for local residents to hear the reasons for the closure and to air their views.
The meeting will be attended by the leader of the council, local councillors, Denbighshire’s head of leisure services and other council officers, who will listen to the concerns of local residents and to discuss ways of moving forward.
"The council believes that the opinions of local residents are crucial in this debate about the future of their community," said a county council spokeswoman.
"The council is working with user groups to identify alternative venues for events which have been booked at the pavilion."
Several major events seeking a new venue include: the Urdd Jamboree on May 6, Noson Gan Concert on June 11 and 12, Symphonia Cymru on July 5 and one of Britain’s top sheep-shearing competitions on July 23 and 24.
"The majority of events have already been relocated," added the spokeswoman for the council, who will be paying for any relocation costs incurred.
"Since the meeting with local community representatives, the council has continued to talk to local residents and has not disregarded any temporary arrangements which have been suggested while a permanent solution is found," she added.
