THE Queen and Prince Phillip will visit Caernarfon and Bangor on April 27.
Mayor of Caernarfon Hywel Roberts said that the announcement was excellent news for the town and added:
“As mayor of Caernarfon and deputy constable of the castle, I am delighted and honoured to welcome Her Majesty to the castle.
It will be a privilege for my wife Margaret and myself to escort the royal couple during their visit to the castle.”
Councillor Huw Edwards, of Cadnant ward, said that the royal visit would provide a welcome boost for traders.
“I’m glad that she can bring some popularity to the town - a royal visit to any town pulls people into the town,” he said. “This will benefit businesses in Caernarfon and will raise the profile of the town.”
The Royal couple will view the castle’s Welch Fusilier Museum and the Exhibition of the Prince of Wales' Investiture in 1969.
Councillor Ioan Ceredig Thomas, of Menai (Caernarfon) ward, added: “Without a shadow of a doubt, this is good news for Caernarfon. It has been a long time since she last visited the town but I am confident she will receive a warm welcome.”
After their visit to the castle, the Royal party will take the Welsh Highland Railway train to Dinas Station to unveil a plaque naming a new carriage.
They will then attend a reception with staff and students at Bangor University Business School
