The Queen visits Llandudno's Venue Cymru as part of her tour of the region on Tuesday

THOUSANDS of people packed Llandudno Promenade to cheer The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh today (Tuesday).

Local schoolchildren, adults and prominent community figures mingled with holidaymakers in the spring sunshine to catch a glimpse of The Queen as she visited Venue Cymru.

The Queen met groups of volunteers from across Conwy and Denbighshire working with scouts, guides and the elderly.

The voluntary sector were given the chance to chat to The Queen about their role in the community.

The Royal Party arrived in Llandudno approximately 30 minutes late, but the cheering crowds waited patiently, proudly waving Welsh flags and banners and holding flowers to present to her.

They were delighted as The Queen waved from inside Venue Cymru and as she was driven through the town.

Earlier, The Queen had visited Bangor and Caernarfon Castle, where she last saw her son Prince Charles invested as Prince of Wales in 1969.

The Queen, who was wearing a pink dress and matching hat, was given a special musical performance by members of Llandudno Youth Theatre and Ensemble Cymru, along with a reminder of her ancestor’s reign as monarch.

She was given a sneak preview of this year’s popular Victorian Extravaganza festival, celebrating the Victorian heritage of Great Britain.

The Royal Party were welcomed by a stream of Victorian vehicles and people dressed in traditional dress of the era.

She met Cllr Janet Jones, Mayor of Llandudno, and other local dignitaries, as crowds watched excitedly.

Josh Callum Gamble, nine, a pupil at Ysgol Pencae, Penmaenmawr, had been waiting with great anticipation for days about The Queen’s visit.

He said: “I haven’t been able to sleep. I’ve been so excited. Every morning I’ve been saying when will I meet the Queen?

“She’s the most famous lady in the world. She’s lovely and she looks lovely.”

Another excited wellwisher was Debbie Robbis, 52, of Llandudno, a member of the Victorian Extravaganza committee.

She said: “It is very exciting. It is a great boost for Llandudno, especially during the Extravaganza week.”

A memorable day out for the seaside was enjoyed by Manchester resident Heather Sharp, also 52.

She said: “I am very pleased at getting the chance to see The Queen. It was well worth coming here for a day trip.

“It was lovely when The Queen waved through the window. She looked youthful in pink.”
