BUS services to and from Llandudno will be increased over the Bank Holiday weekend to cater for Victorian Extravaganza crowds.

Arriva Buses Wales has announced extra journeys on some of its local services, as well as a Park and Ride service to cater for the estimated 300,000 locals and visitors expected to descend on the town.

Extra journeys will be added to the 5 and 9/X9 services on the Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday (May 2 & 3), or drivers can leave their cars at Llandrillo College and a shuttle service will operate throughout the three-day festival.

With fears of traffic snarl ups because of work on building the new Maesdu Bridge, the organisers of the Extravaganza are enthusiastic about the plans.

Extravaganza chairman, Greg Robbins, said: “We are very pleased that Arriva has decided to lay on these services and fully support them, as it will help alleviate traffic congestion in and out of the town over the weekend. There will be signs on the A55 directing motorists to the park and ride and hopefully many of them will take advantage of it.”

Cars will be able to park all day at Llandrillo College on Llandudno Road, Rhos on Sea, for a fee of £5 per vehicle and buses will operate a free shuttle service to and from the college, dropping off at Asda/magistrates court in Llandudno at half hourly intervals between 8am and 8.30pm.

Keith Anglesea, general manager at Arriva’s depot in Llandudno junction, said: “This is the first time we have operated an additional service of this kind in conjunction with the Extravaganza and are pleased to be able to help counter the envisaged traffic problems. We are also very grateful for the co-operation of Llandrillo College in making its car park available.
“It’s an excellent location for a park and ride as it will help divert traffic away from the other routes into Llandudno.”

There will also be a free shuttle service operated by vintage buses between the Llandudno Transport Festival on Bodafon Fields and the town centre.
