Colwyn Bay win by 7 runs.

Colwyn Bay CC honoured the 50th anniversary of their new pavilion with a crushing victory over Northern CC.

On a bright afternoon at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club in Rhos-on-Sea, batsman Gareth Cross was in the mood to celebrate, hammering 13 boundaries to guide his team to victory.

The Bay got off to a flyer, dismissing both opening batsmen for just one run.
Jared Fletcher was the first to go, with Will Hantam bowling him out in the first over.
He was joined in the stands shortly after by Michael Baer who went for a golden duck - Graeme Jones catching him after a Ryan Holtby ball.

Northern rallied despite the stunning start to the match, with John F Wildman scoring 45 in partnerships worth 96 runs before finally falling. Paul Jenkins and Hantam combined for the key wicket, with the latter catching Wildman to make the score 97-5. Some shrewd bowling from the Bay then saw out the latter half of the

Northern batting order, with Jenkins the star man by claiming 4 wickets and 10 maiden overs from his 23 overs. Over a third of the 63 overs Colwyn Bay completed were maidens, as their opponents were restricted to a total of 164 runs all out. Colwyn Bay then set about racing to their target, but were set-back early on by the dismissal of Carwen Williams for 10 runs, with the score on 25-1.

Number 3 Zack Gidlow fell for a duck to make it 40-2, before Sion Morris and opener Leach, who scored 56 runs, combined to steady the ship.

Leach was the next to go, having helped take his team half of the way towards their goal, before Gareth Cross took the match by the scruff of it’s neck and hauled his team across the finishing line.

He smashed 69 runs from just 35 balls, including eight 4’s and five 6’s, to guide the Bay to victory.
