A SHARK has been spotted in Penrhyn Bay sea waters.

Chad Copper, whose family live near the sea front, was determined to find out what was lurking under the waters when his family noticed a shark fin in the sea. He took to the waters in his kayak and took some photographs.

He said: “I contacted a shark expert in Plymouth and e-mailed the photos across. I also spoke to the Marine Biology department at Bangor University. The all said it is a Basking shark. They are harmless, they can grow really big.

“We thought it was a dolphin at first, but noticed it was behaving strangely. The experts said Basking sharks have only been spotted on the Cornwall coast. It must be because the waters are getting warmer,” he added.

The Basking shark is the second largest living shark, which is often observed when feeding at the surface. It is called a basking shark because it appears to be basking in the warm water. The shark eats sea plankton and small fish.
